Playces - Places for Play

The aim of the Thesis is to increase interaction in the city and get people to interact more with the city and the people in the city. The best form of interaction found is through play. The walks(top left) were done based on the principles of Situationist's Derive and Psychogeography

To achieve this the digital was used in a way such that it facilitates the physical interaction. I designed the UI of an app, which would help facilitate this interaction, where people could learn about Mumbai and allows the player to explore and interact with various layers of the city and with locals based on their interest and the kind of player they were. For example- Epicurean? Explorer? Solve tasks based on your interest, walk around the city (based on ‘Derivé ), learn about the local who makes some really good Fish curry, compete with another player with similar interests, document your experience- creating a transmedia database of the city.

"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation" - Plato

The design proposal is based on the main quality of play- of it being flexible. Having mobile, detachable, adaptable and hacker spaces- which can be used as per the player and can be used as an insert in any part of the city. The structure- on the back of a truck- with Ludic elements, having movable components, multifunctional, adaptable and flexible to allow constant change, interactive and playful, consists of spaces for the various types of play (activity, performance, productive, exchange, participatory) and players (explorer, socialiser, achiever, adventurous, competitor, performer)
